This was a digital mock-up,
or a concept image, for a proposed painting for the back cover for the
novel Yesterday's Dreams. In the novel, the villain walks the
streets of New York City openly using his magical powers, yet common mortals
don't notice. To capture this theme, I portrayed the villain so that one
could mistake the power crackling from his hands for the headlights of
a car. The author rejected the image, however, so I never painted the
painting.
I created this mock-up
by digitally altering a famous photograph from National Geographic. Unfortunately,
I cannot now find the photo or the photographer's name to attribute it
properly to him here. My digital alterations made considerable changes
to his original, and my painting, if executed, would have further diverged
from that intial image. One might nonetheless still have been able to
recognize the inspiration I drew from the original photo.
