Leading adventure author, fellow WereCabbage, and all around good guy Steve Greer asked me to illustrate the Warbeast, a concept monster he created and offered to Paizo Publishing in connection with his D&D adventure "Sins of the Saviors", the fifth adventure in Pathfinder's Rise of the Runelords adventure path. Paizo adapted Steve's initial concept to create the shemhazian demon in Pathfinder # 5. A sidebar to the Bestiary on page 80 of Pathfinder #5 reads:

The Art of the Warbeast

For years, Steve Greer has been one of our go-to guys whenever we’ve needed a deadly dungeon, solid article, or other devious imagining. Thus, it was no surprise when, in addition to his multi-thousand-word turnover for “Sins of the Saviors,” we received a sizable color illustration for one of his Bestiary creatures, the warbeast. By artist Ted Reed, the piece showed us exactly what Steve was driving at—a massive multi-eyed menace more than capable of punting PCs with its varied and deadly limbs. Although the warbeast saw a few changes and eventually transformed into the fierce, Lamashtu-spawned shemhazian demon, the original imagining and extra effort were fantastically helpful in bringing about the version that appears on page 86.

So thanks to both Stephen and Ted for all the exemplary work. You can check out Mr. Reed’s entire portfolio of fantasy artwork at ashenvaleart.com.
